As the second mainstream handheld to release, ASUS has had a lot of time to perfect the ROG Ally formula, and it seems to be working well. The ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, their newest handhelds, are performing quite well, and it's wonderful to see. However, a new update for the entire family of handhelds has dropped, and I am shocked it took so long to get here.

ROG Xbox Ally

The new updates encompass all of the ROG Ally handhelds, with some specific improvements for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. It's pretty fantastic to see all the updates, and there are honestly some insane changes that I am shocked weren't here before.

One of the biggest changes here, which is a little bit crazy, is the FPS limiter option in Armoury Crate has been changed from 45 to 40 FPS. This reflects the 120hz refresh rate of the panel much better, and honestly, it's crazy it wasn't in this before. AMD Radeon Chill has been integrated into the FPS limiter function, an update notification feature was added to the Command Center, and there's now an option to enter or exit the full screen experience using key bindings. There's also now support for WiFi captive portals.

As for the ROG Xbox Ally, a new debug interface was added, power consumption has been improved when in standby, and there was a GPU driver update to further improve performance. On top of that, the BIOS update flow has been optimized with a refined mechanism for adapter plug-in detection.

And on the ROG Xbox Ally X, we have improved haptics for Impulse Triggers, the same optimized BIOS update flow, improved Cloud Recovery, and stability improvements. We have have new CPU P-Core and E-Core options to tune for performance in the "More Settings" page in Armoury Crate.

You can check out the full changelog for all of these updates via the ROG forums.

You can download the updates for the handhelds through the Armoury Crate app and Windows Update.
