A new Proton Experimental update was released yesterday with some fixes for games and regressions. Predecessor will no longer crash after the most recent update, while dropdown menus will work properly in DOOM Eternal. Deadlock freezes will no longer happen, while we have improved performance in Rocket League and Unreal Tournament 3.
The new Proton Experimental update should automatically download if you already have the experimental layer. If not, just search for Proton Experimental in the Steam store on your Steam Deck and download.
Proton Experimental 8/28/25 Update Changelog:
- Now playable: Viking Rise: Valhalla, Mary Skelter: Nightmares, Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force.
- Fixed dropdown menus closing immediately after opening them in Doom Eternal.
- Improved performance in Rocket League and Unreal Tournament 3.
- Fixed cutscene pausing / skipping in Dungeon Lords Steam Edition.
- Fixed blue tint in Resident Evil Village videos.
- Fixed Predecessor crashing after a recent game update.
- Fixed short freezes happening every 5 min in Deadlock.
- Updated Wine Mono to 10.1.0.
- Fixed Proton Experimental regressions:
- Phasmophobia should no longer have performance dips after joining a match.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 should have working HDR again.
- Fixed Proton 10 regressions:
- Assetto Corsa EVO should no longer reset modified autocenter strength.
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures should correctly load controller mapping when using Steam Input.
- Unplugging a controller should no longer break keyboard input in INSIDE.
