Right after I finished my Annapurna appointment at the Tokyo Game Show, I had the pleasure of checking out another awesome publisher that I have had the pleasure of meeting with at every event I’ve been to: Bandai Namco. I am a huge fan of their games, especially ones that revolve around different anime like Naruto and One Piece, so as soon as I saw that a new My Hero Academia game was coming, I was all in and ready to see what they are cooking up. And from what I can tell, they are cooking up something special.

Following up the One’s Justice series, My Hero Academia: All’s Justice takes a very different turn. Instead of the 3D 1v1 battles we have become accustomed to, we are now able to run around an open world. The battles themselves are still enclosed in smaller arenas, but they happen wherever you are, with more emphasis on vertical movement. Jumping and flinging yourself around were very common, and making use of the environment, like making cars explode or slamming them into buildings, to help you defeat your opponent wasn’t an abnormal concept.
Each of these fights can include up to two other teammates who can swap out and control. This opens up the possibility for some devastating combos when bringing the other two teammates in to help us fight. Heroes can also utilize a powered-up Rising state to get even more of an edge, and if we somehow lose all of our health, one of our teammates could come to our rescue in their Rising state, giving us another chance to win. We can use basic and special attacks, as well as Plus Ultra attacks, for some big damage.
I did get to try All's Justice out for myself and partake in a mission and some fights. I thought the actual combat was a ton of fun, and I love how vertical it can get with attacks pushing us and enemies into the air. However, a lot of enemies have armor, and it could get too difficult. It’s possible I was playing on a higher difficulty, but it was tough. Enemies that have armor don’t recoil from attacks, and act like a second health bar we have to deplete before we can hurt them. They can still attack, though, and boy, did they attack a lot. Half of my health was gone by the time the armor was finally destroyed, and it was a little frustrating.

The game takes place in a VR world, where all of the heroes have logged in to partake in training and help the students train. After choosing a mission, you will be dropped into the world to start your main mission. From there, just follow the location markers, finish the mission, and you’ll be able to continue along with the story.
However, there’s a lot more to it, and I thought it was awesome. The open world has more to do than just complete the main mission, and it will impact your stats when facing the mission’s final boss. There are side missions sprinkled throughout, with some being for alternate challenges while others are more unique. Completing each one boosts how much attack you deal or how much you heal. Doing more can boost further, which will ultimately make your final boss fight that much easier. So, not only do side missions contain intriguing stories, but they also help your main mission overall. It’s a nice touch that I want to explore more.
As we complete missions, we will also unlock Archive Battles to partake in. These are recreations of some of the biggest fights from the series, which will be nice to relive. And with all of the characters announced so far, including all of Class 1-A, there’s going to be a lot of potential for some big fights.

I love anime fighters, I have ever since the original Naruto Ultimate Ninja, and I’m still blown away when I see how this type of game is evolving. My Hero Academia: All’s Justice looks like a ton of fun, and after playing a bit of it myself, I can say that it is. I look forward to seeing how much better it gets, and I think it’s going to feel like the perfect evolution for the series.
