The holiday season is coming around, and new handhelds are popping up left and right. Hot off the heels of the RG DS getting its specs leaked, we have a new announcement from MagicX, with their first clamshell handheld coming out soon, and it looks quite interesting.
The MagicX One Flip 50, which we first saw over on Retro Dodo and NotebookCheck, was announced over on the MagicX Discord server. They unveiled the official full name, as well as the chip, size and resolution of the screen, price, design, and the some of the button's materials. It's definitely an interesting-looking handheld, and could be a decent device for the price.

The One Flip 50 will be using a MediaTek Helio G85 chip with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The chip, which is also used in MagicX's One 35 and One Retro45 models, should be capable of emulating the older consoles, as well as PS1, DS, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PSP, and some Sega Saturn. It may be possible to play some less demanding PS2 and GameCube games, but I would not count on it.
Still, for some of the classic emulation, this should be a solid device. It should be a little smaller than the AYN Thor, clocking in with a screen size of 5.5 inches vs the Thor's 6-inch top screen, and since it folds, it will fit snuggly in a pocket like a Nintendo DS does. The screen will be a 1920x1080 display, and although there is no confirmation, my bet is that it will be an LCD screen.

Price-wise, it will be around $95, which is pretty great considering. Though it will have to go up against Anbernic's RG DS. With both devices releasing soon and at cheaper prices, it will be interesting to see which will be better. In terms of pure power, the One Flip 50 will win out, but the RG DS will be functionally better than the One Flip 50 for DS emulation due to having a second screen. The One Flip 50 will also sport a higher resolution screen with silicone buttons, so it's going to be a tough matchup.
Still, it will be exciting to see, and I am looking forward to more developments. No release window has been set yet, but I will be interested to see if it releases before the holiday.
