Banjo-Kazooie's Native PC Port is Here, And It's Fantastic On The Steam Deck

Over the past few years, we have been seeing more and more games from the Nintendo 64 era getting decompiled and turned into native PC ports. We have seen The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, and even Perfect Dark get ports, which were all enhanced with higher framerate support, better resolution support, higher visual quality, and more. Now, a native port of Banjo-Kazooie is here, and it's pretty fantastic.

Not long ago, Banjo-Kazooie was statically recompiled, thanks to Mr-Wiseguy and their team, and yesterday, a native port for the PC was released. It has high framerate support, widescreen and ultrawide support, dual analog camera, note saving, mod support, and low input lag. But all of the effects from the N64 era and audio have been preserved, keeping the game faithful to the original release. And there is a Linux version, which means that playing on the Steam Deck is easy and wonderful.

The native PC port will require a legally dumped North American copy of Banjo-Kazooie. We will not provide links or a download for this ROM, as we do not support piracy.

All you have to do to get it running on the Steam Deck is download the Linux-X64 Zip from the GitHub release page. From there, move the files in the downloaded Zip into a new folder made on the Desktop and add the BanjoRecompiled executable to Steam. Before we head back into Game Mode, put the Banjo-Kazooie ROM into the same folder. Then, you can head back into Game Mode, launch the Banjo-Kazooie port, load your ROM, and then start playing.

There shouldn't be anything else that needs to be done to play. The port has full gamepad support, so there aren't any changes that need to be made to actually control the game, and it runs perfectly. It can easily hit 90 FPS, while still sticking under 7W battery drain for over 8 hours of battery life. It feels like a flawless experience on the go, which is just a treat.
